homestay : tips for guests

Get to know your host

There are several ways you can find information about your potential host.

Review the listing

Check the profile that has a real name, complete description of the place and clear photographs. If there are some information missing from the profile, you can request them to complete their profile. A good host is one who provides exhaustive details and description of their listing. So pay more attention to comprehensive listings, including information on the place and its neighborhood.

Read the reviews and recommendations

After every successful stay, both you and your guest will be invited to leave a review on the site. This process is completely transparent, so all reviews - whether good or bad - will be displayed on the profile. Pay attention to reviews that include previous guests’ experiences - Did they have a pleasant stay? Were there any problems during the stay and how were they resolved with the host?

Ask the right questions

Send your potential host a message to ask more information. This can help avoid any miscommunication between you and set the right expectations for both parties. Here are some examples of questions you can ask your potential host:
Q 1. How will we manage the key exchange?
Q 2. Will I have a private or shared bathroom?
Q 3. Will there be a secure place for my belongings?
Q 4. Will I be staying with other guests at the same time?

Keep your options open

For more options, we strongly recommend that you search for several places that fit your needs. Some hosts are more responsive than others and we don’t want you worrying about last-minute accommodations.

Don’t rush

Before sending any reservation requests, know what your needs are for the trip - Would you mind sharing a common room with another guest?
Perhaps you don’t mind paying a little extra for more privacy?
Once you are set with your requirements, you can be clearly share your expectations with your potential host.

On-site messaging

We encourage you that you send a message to your potential hosts and ask the right questions. This can also serve as paper trail that we can use as reference should both you and the host come to a misunderstanding.

Secure payments

When your host accepts your reservation request, it will hold on to your payment until 24 hours after you check-in. If there are any changes to what you have agreed upon with the host (e.g. increased the rates, booked you at a different place, etc.),

3. Be ready

Clear communication is key

To avoid any misunderstandings, pay attention to all the details about the listing - carefully read the reviews and the descriptions, house rules, etc. Reach out to your host to clarify any questions you might have. This ensures that you both set expectations and avoid any surprises.

Do a once-over

Upon arrival, do a quick spot-check of the place. If something’s a-miss (e.g. non-functioning air- conditioning unit), let your host know immediately.

Share your itinerary

If you are traveling alone, remember to share your travel details - like your temporary address in your destination - to family or trusted friends, before your leave.
